Dr Onur Yilmazer

Dr Onur Yilmazer is a GMC-registered doctor with extensive clinical experience in General and Internal Medicine, Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He completed four years of Internal Medicine specialty training at Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital, a high-volume tertiary hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

During his specialist training, Dr Yilmazer gained broad experience across multiple medical specialties, managing patients with a wide range of acute, chronic and complex medical conditions. His experience includes the assessment and management of patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders, cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions, kidney disease, gastrointestinal and liver disorders, haematological conditions, rheumatological and autoimmune diseases, and complex multi-system illnesses.

Dr Yilmazer has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with complex medical presentations and long-term conditions. He has also developed practical experience in a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including paracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, peripheral blood smear assessment and urine microscopy.

He completed his medical degree at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, before undertaking his Internal Medicine specialty training in Istanbul. He has subsequently developed familiarity with UK clinical practice through NHS observerships.

UK Clinical Experience

Dr Yilmazer has completed clinical observerships within the NHS, gaining experience of UK healthcare systems, multidisciplinary team working and evidence-based clinical practice.

He completed a four-week observership in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he observed multidisciplinary perioperative care, operative practice and intensive care management.

He also completed a three-week observership in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Medway Maritime Hospital, gaining exposure to NHS diabetes clinics and the application of NICE guidelines in clinical practice.

Research & Academic Work

Dr Yilmazer has been involved in clinical research, academic presentations and publications across Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Haematology.

His academic work includes research into diabetes, rare endocrine disorders and haematological malignancies. His postgraduate thesis examined treatment outcomes and real-world data in patients with aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

He has also contributed to published research examining the effects of second primary malignancies and frailty on overall survival and mortality in older patients with multiple myeloma, published in Current Oncology.
