Milia Spots

Milia are small, whiten or yellowish bumps that commonly appear on the skin, particularly on the face. They form when keratin, a protein found in the skin, becomes trapped under the surface. Milia are often mistaken for whiteheads, but they are not related to acne. They are  typically harmless and don’t cause pain or discomfort, though some people seek treatment for cosmetic reasons.

Causes of milia can include:

Skin trauma: Burns, blisters, and rushes can lead to the formation of milia.
Sun Damage: Overexposure to the sun can lead to a thickening of the skin, which can trap keratin.
Use of Heavy Skincare Products: Products that are too rich or thick can clog pores and lead to milia.
Genetic: Som people are more prone to developing milia due to their genetic makeup.

Treatment and Removal

Exfoliation: Regular gentle exfoliation can help prevent milia by removing dead skin cells and promoting skin turnover.
Topical Retinoids: These can help to clear milia by promoting cell turnover and preventing keratin build-up.
Laser Therapy: In some cases, lasers can be used to target and remove milia.
Prevention: Use non-comedogenic products, choose skincare products that won’t clog pores. Protect your skin from the sun, use regular sunscreen can help prevent sun damage, which may contribute to milia. Avoid heavy creams around the eyes, use lighter formulations in areas prone to milia.
