Spider / Thread Veins

Lady on laser skin resurfacing procedure, female cosmetologist in protective gloves uses CO2 laser

Spider veins and varicose veins are small, dilated blood vessels that can appear as blue or red threads on the skin’s surface. While they are more common in women and can occur anywhere on the body, they are typically painless and do not usually cause significant health issues.

Causes of Spider Veins

Genetics: A family history of spider veins increases the likelihood of developing them.
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormones can contribute to the formation of spider veins.
Sun Exposure: Excessive sun exposure can damage skin and lead to the development of spider veins.
Prolonged Standing or Sitting: Remaining in one position for long periods can impair circulation and cause spider veins.
Aging: As skin ages, it loses elasticity and support, making veins visible.
Injury or Trauma: Physical trauma or injury to the skin can damage blood vessels and result in spider veins.
Obesity: Excess body weight increases pressure on veins.

Treatments

Sclerotherapy: A solution is injected into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and eventually be absorbed by the body.
Laser Therapy: A focused beam light is directed at the spider veins, which heats and destroys them without damaging the surrounding skin.
Intense Pulse Light ( IPL ) : IPL  uses broad spectrum light to target an reduce spider veins, similar to laser but using a different technology, both often used but may require multiple treatments.

There is minimal, mild  side effects like  slight swelling, redness, and bruising.

Spider veins are generally harmless but they can be a cosmetic concern for many people. Fortunately, there are several effective treatments done at our Diamed London Clinic that can significantly reduce or eliminate their appearance.
